The South East Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, most commonly referred to as SETCADA, was established in 1958 in Beaumont, Texas with the purpose of providing interventions, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse and addiction treatment. Its Unity Treatment Center is a residential treatment facility for men, ages 18 and older, who are struggling with chemical dependency. Residents receive therapy and learn basic life skills to help with their transition back into society.
Accommodations and Food
Unity Treatment Center accommodates between 20 and 40 men, who are lodged in a military-style living accommodations with bunk beds and lockers for personal belongings. There are washers and dryers on the premises.
During the day there is a full time cook, otherwise meal preparation is assigned to a team of residents. Clients are served three meals, along with snacks, inside a cafeteria. Usually, the kitchen provides tea, milk and water all day, while coffee is only served in the morning. Sodas are sold at vending machines.
Treatment and Staff
At Unity Treatment Center, clinical, evidence-based modalities are used along with 12-step principles. Weekly treatment includes daily group counseling, a one-on-one session and four off-site 12-step meetings. Group topics include relapse prevention, recovery dynamics, life skills, co-occurring disorders, the 12 steps and coping skills. On a daily basis, clients participate in emotional processing, a technique that helps them divert from using chemical substances to numb unpleasant feelings.
Staff includes three full time licensed counselors, a program director, office techs, a full time cook and a daytime driver who transports residents to AA/NA meetings. During the evenings, there is one night shift supervisor for every group of 16 men.

Clients learn basic recovery tools that will help them with day-to-day life once they leave complete the program. Unity Treatment Center accepts state-funded Medicaid but also offers sliding scale and private pay options.
