Located in Beverly Hills, California, Serenity Psychiatry is a boutique treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with a range of mental illnesses and conditions including anxiety, depression, trauma and attention disorders. Founded by Dr. Samer Kamal, MD, a psychiatrist and assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of California at Riverside. Serenity Psychiatry provides primarily outpatient-based therapy and medication management for dual diagnosis support. Twelve-step recovery is not a part of the programming.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at Serenity integrates a combination of medication management and therapy. Dr. Kamal offers an extensive understanding of psychiatric medications in order to treat an array of mental illnesses including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, panic disorders, PTSD as well as sleep conditions. Other complex conditions include HIV, cancer and autoimmune disorders. Illnesses are diagnosed based on an assessment that factors in the intensity, duration and rate of symptoms.
Clients beginning treatment at Serenity first undergo a brief phone consultation, followed by a 90 minute comprehensive assessment where Dr. Kamal reviews the client’s complete medical, psychiatric and family history. This evaluation also provides the client with an opportunity to discuss their reasons for seeing psychotherapy and/or medication management. Based off of the assessment, Dr. Kamal creates an individualized program that is tailored to the specific needs of the client.
Clients participate in 30-minute follow up sessions to gauge the progress of the treatment plan. Symptom occurrences are discussed and, if necessary, changes are made. Psychotherapy is also provided during these sessions. Serenity also offers services for individuals seeking a second opinion. In these circumstances, Dr. Kamal provides a 60 minute evaluation of the client’s current medication regimen as well as the occurring symptoms and mood.
Dr. Kamal is a board certified psychiatrist that speaks fluent English, Romanian and Arabic. In addition to psychotherapy and medication management, Dr. Kamal utilizes genetic testing for clients that have not experienced success through pharmacology.
