Serenity Point Recovery Center Review
Serenity Point Recovery Center is an addiction rehab that offers detox, inpatient and outpatient treatment services in Marne, Michigan, which is not far northwest of Grand Rapids. Treatment includes judgement-free counseling through programs that are entirely individualized to the client’s specific needs. Treatment includes group and individual therapy, spiritual counseling and SMART Recovery in addition to 12-step.
Accommodations and Food
The large brick building where clients reside and participate in treatment can accommodate up to 100 clients, who sleep in both private and shared bedrooms, with some of them having three beds, and some are more dorm like with bunks. The facility supplies all of the linens and towels. The campus is lakeside and offers several amenities, like a massage room, yoga studio, workout room with machines, and a rec room complete with a pool table. There are also lounge areas with couches that are placed in front of the mounted TV.
Meals are served three times a day cafeteria style in the dining hall. There are always several options offered, along with tea and coffee.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment begins with a phone call to the facility, followed up an in-person intake once the client arrives. The inpatient program typically begins with a medical detox, which can last up to a week or so. After the client is stabilized they are placed into the residence where they begin a structured schedule of counseling and therapeutic activities. This is a 30 to 90 day program, depending on what suits the client.
There are several group sessions throughout the day; some are gender-specific. The groups address relapse prevention, co-occurring disorders, accountability and responsibility, improving communication and relationships, and, in some cases, anger management and parenting. Treatment approaches include Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and DBT. Medication management can be facilitated for clients who have a dual diagnosis.
Several life skills classes are also offered at Serenity Point. Managing money, acquiring and maintaining employment, and healthy ways of handling stress are just some of the many topics covered in this part of the program.
There is a large staff at Serenity Point that includes a psychiatrists, a medical director, LPCs, LMSWs, case managers, CADCs and behavioral health techs.
Extras
Some extra options to treatment include a music program, art therapy, cooking and nutrition skills and classes, and a daily opportunity to exercise in the gym or take yoga classes.
