Serenity Place Review
Serenity Place is a non-profit behavioral health treatment facility that offers both inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment. Serenity Place is located in Manchester, New Hampshire, which is considered to be in the largest city in the state. Serenity Place was founded in 1987 by a group of people in recovery.
Accommodations and Food
The Serenity Place residential program takes place in a clinical setting where the rooms include two twin beds and a shared bathroom. There is a large lounge at the facility with a TV, available music and room for art therapy.
For meals, Serenity Place has an on-site chef who prepares delicious lunches and dinners in a separate dining area. Simple breakfast items are made available to clients in the morning, as well. With advanced notice, Serenity Place will make special accommodations for a client’s specific dietary needs.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, the staff creates a customized treatment plan for each client. The residential program lasts for 28 days, and incorporates different therapeutic modalities including CBT, DBT, EMDR and several other treatment options. While they involve 12-step recovery, they also introduce SMART Recovery and because they offer a wide selection of treatment options, they let individuals decide what works for them. While each client is assigned a case manager and counselor, individual therapy happens on a regular basis each week and they offer dual diagnosis support. Exercise is also incorporated into the program and clients are encouraged to take walks and work out in the on-site gym.
The staff includes CADCs and LCSWs. While there is not a doctor on site, referrals can be made to the nearby Catholic Medical Health Center, where clients can also seek detox and medical services if necessary.
Extras
There is a family program, where family members attend classes about addiction. Upon graduation of the program, family members and client meet together for family therapy sessions to ensure a smooth transition back into their everyday lives.
There is also a wrap-around program where a week prior to completing treatment, clients are enrolled in the aftercare program that consists of case management and additional outpatient treatment weekly. Serenity Place prides itself in never turning people away that cannot afford treatment.

Serenity Place is an NCADD affiliate that offers comprehensive care to clients and their family members. Through believing that addition is a chronic disease, Serenity Place’s has created a safe and caring environment where recovery is custom-made for each individual’s needs. This community-based facility also has collaborative partnerships outside of the facility to provide additional care.
