The Basics
Serenity Lodge Sober Living for Men was founded in 2002. Nestled in the gorgeous mountains of Nicholson, Pennsylvania, the lodge provides men in recovery with a safe, structured sober living environment, as well as a solid fellowship. Residents utilize the surrounding area by attending local community colleges, universities or attaining employment as well as participating in a variety of recreational activities.
Accommodations and Amenities
Serenity Lodge accommodates approximately 22 men, with up to three clients sharing a sparsely furnished rooms. The men sleep on bunk beds or twin beds. Amenities include a basketball court, digital cable TV, Wi-Fi, a fitness center, onsite laundry facilities, central heat and air. Serenity Lodge is located next to a golf course and just a few miles away from a ski resort.
There is a cook on staff. Residents eat three hot meals a day inside a dining room furnished with long rectangular tables and chairs.
Rules and Regulations
Potential residents of Serenity Lodge must be sober and pass a drug test prior to admittance. Requirements for clients include attendance at daily 12-step meetings off the premises, on-site peer group meetings, individual meetings with staff and finding a local AA/NA sponsor (prior to discharge). Residents must also participate in a daily morning meditation group.
While Serenity Lodge does not offer transitional care on the premises, residents and their families have the option to participate in a family program in nearby Lackawanna County. The program is part educational and part group therapy where clients and their families discuss issues and share feelings.
Extras
The director can offer referrals for local attorneys who can provide assistance for criminal justice clients.
Besides skiing and golfing, clients often get together for recreational activities that include bowling, fishing, sledding, picnicking, swimming and boating.
In Summary
The gorgeous mountain location is a perfect fit for an outdoorsy guy seeking a 12-step based sober living. Serenity Lodge provides clients with a plethora of recreational activities, while they work towards rebuilding a clean and sober life. The family program is an additional plus, as are the peer support groups. Serenity Lodge is not great for those who need the hustle and bustle of city life or are opposed to the 12 steps, but it is a safe place for men to build a foundation in recovery and build a peer support group.
