The facility can host between 10 to 12 residents at any given time in semi-private and private rooms; the former are typically shared between two to three clients, each in queen-sized beds.
The home has an expansive floor plan with common ares with couches, cable TV and Internet, a broad outdoor patios with a fire pit and an outdoor swimming pool in the backyard. Throughout their stay, all clients are served three meals a day using locally sourced ingredients with meal plans designed by on-staff nutritionists.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff develop their individualized treatment plans. Those in need of detox services can do so on-site. Treatment lengths can vary depending on each resident’s needs—though 90 days are recommended, 30 days and shorter executive stays of 14 days are also offered.
Treatment includes individual and group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). Dual diagnosis support including medication management is also included, as is mandatory 12-step participation.
The staff at Serenity House Costa Rica is wide-ranging and includes psychiatrists, doctors, psychologists, CADCs, LPCs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
The curriculum also includes a host of holistic approaches including art therapy, yoga, Tai Chi and mindfulness training. Additional services include many relaxation-based therapies such as deep tissue massage and spiritual coaching.
For those who need more flexible residential arrangements, a per diem charge structure is also available. Case managers can help clients plan transportation and travel expenses. Finally, those who finish a program can work with staff members to develop aftercare plans as well.
In all, Serenity House Costa Rica provides a beautiful environment for clients seeking a luxury stay at a more affordable price. Treatment is wide-ranging and includes 12-step integration, evidence-based care, holistic approaches and dual diagnosis support. Psychiatric and medical oversight are also provided and all treatment plans are individualized. For those looking to travel for recovery, Serenity House Costa Rica may be worth considering.
