The Basics

Based out of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, Serenity Homes is a broad network of sober living facilities that offer safe, stable living environments for men and women in recovery. The organization is also partnered with the nearby Serenity Village Community Church, a Christian ministry that provides fellowship and outreach services to clients in the program as well. Lengths of stay in all Serenity residences are flexible.

Accommodations and Amenities

Serenity Homes operates nine different houses for men and two houses for women throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. Although all the homes have a different layout, each features both shared and private rooms with full sized beds, dressers, nightstands, carpeted floors and other basic decorations. Each of the homes has three to four bedrooms. Additionally, all the houses also come with modern amenities including WiFi and cable, new furniture, common areas and fully-equipped kitchens. Throughout their stay, all clients are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.

Rules and Regulations

As with most sober livings, all residents at Serenity Homes are expected to follow a set of basic house rules. To live at one of the homes, all clients have to remain sober and submit to regular and random drug tests. Additionally, residents are expected to complete basic house chores, keep the common areas clean and to work a 12-step program. Within two weeks of living at the residence, clients are expected to be working at least part-time. Pornography and gambling are prohibited as well as are overnight guests.

Extras

As Serenity Homes is a Christian program, all clients are expected to attend spirituality meetings on Sunday and Tuesday evening at 6 and 6:30 pm, respectively. As a result of the facility’s relationship with the church, many unique community outreach and service projects are available as well including mission trips to Haiti, food drives for starving children and more. The organization also offers flexible lengths of stay and can help clients with discharge planning and aftercare as necessary

In Summary

Overall, Serenity Homes is a broad organization with sober living facilities available for men and women alike. All programs rely heavily on 12-step recovery as well as selected Christian teachings, and lengths of stay are flexible. As with many sober homes, residents are largely left to their own devices while following a basic recovery plan and remaining busy throughout the day. Although the Christian-oriented parts of the program may not be a perfect fit for everyone, those in the area seeking an affordable and flexible sober living home would do well by considering Serenity Homes.
