The Basics
Serenity Education and Therapy is an outpatient treatment facility serving residents of the Denver area struggling with substance abuse. Established in 1986 as a family business, Serenity considers itself a “Mom & Pop Counseling Shop,” despite having grown over their 20 years serving the community. While therapy is an important aspect of Serenity’s treatment plan, education is at its foundation. With a friendly, compassionate approach, Serenity aims to inspire those suffering from chemical dependency to make better choices and to learn from their mistakes. Located only 15 minutes from the famous outdoor amphitheater, Red Rocks, Serenity offers an affordable outpatient treatment option in an inspirational mountain setting.
Though a good portion of clients are alcohol and drug offenders sent by the courts, Serenity uses an individualized approach to meet specific needs, embracing a compassionate strategy instead of a punitive one.
Treatment and Staff
In addition to the main office in Lakewood, Colorado, Serenity has a satellite branch in Conifer, making it easier to serve clients across the Denver metropolitan area. While small in comparison to other treatment centers, Serenity offers a range of treatments during intimate group and individual therapy using CBT and DBT as well as several educational classes. Subjects of these classes include the physical impact of drugs and alcohol on the body and one’s driving abilities, risk management, relapse prevention and goal setting. Clients are encouraged to go to 12-step meetings on their own time. Detox and dual diagnosis support are not available at Serenity.
There are four staff members at the main office, all of whom which are licensed Level 2 or 3 CADCs.
Extras
Anger management is not an official program of Serenity, but it is offered in therapy when necessary, based on the needs of the clients. Out-of-state offenders are welcome to attend treatment, regardless of whether they are self-referred or court-ordered. Medicaid is not accepted at this time, but state vouchers from the courts are—especially from those who are higher risk or financially strained. Sliding scale is also available, based on income.
In Summary
Serenity offers a consistent, longer treatment program. Rather than a punitive approach to treatment, Serenity has a friendly, warm environment focused on enlightenment through the use of therapy and education. While it may not have all the perks of a larger, expensive IOPs, Serenity provides consistent, thorough treatment with qualified staff and affordable prices.
