Seneca Health Services, Inc.The Basics

With a community-based behavioral health care model, Seneca Health Services, Inc. offers a variety of substance abuse programs to Nicholas County, West Virginia, as well as to the surrounding counties of Pocahontas, Greenbrier, Webster and Clay. Altogether, the organization serves an estimated 3,000 clients annually. Among its resources is an outpatient program for substance abuse, administered from the Greenbrier facility.

Treatment and Staff

Seneca offers assessment, counseling and referral services for those with substance abuse and co-dependency, as well as for adult children of alcoholics. It also offers DUI services, with state-approved education and interventions for those charged. Outpatient clients can tailor their schedules according to their needs, though the program generally lasts six to eight months and involves a mixture of group therapy and individual counseling. Group sessions are held once a week while individual sessions are once a month.

For detox, Seneca has a facility called Crosswinds near the Greenbrier headquarters. This medically-assisted process lasts approximately five to 10 days, and provides housing and meals (including snacks). While Crosswinds is available as a stand-alone service, most clients who go through detox continue on to the outpatient program. To facilitate this, Seneca ensures that anyone leaving detox has an intake appointment the next day to discuss further treatment, should they choose to.

Extras

Seneca offers a similar outpatient track for mental health issues which is also open to those in the substance abuse program, should they have any co-occurring disorders which need to be addressed. The psychiatrist on staff offers advice on clients’ treatment plans and handles medication management when necessary. The mental health program includes psychological assessment, prescription evaluation and monitoring as well as individual, group and family therapy (which is also open to children and adolescents). Seneca also offers 24/7 crisis intervention and referral services to psychiatric hospitals, when necessary.

In Summary

Seneca Health Services’ outpatient program could be a good choice for prospective clients looking to maintain their normal schedule while in treatment. Access to an affiliated detox and supplemental mental health groups are added bonuses, especially at such an affordable rate—payments are accepted on a sliding scale. With insurance, Seneca typically has no out-of-pocket costs (after an initial evaluation fee).
