Based in Seminole, Oklahoma, the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma substance abuse treatment program is an outpatient facility that assists Native Americans in resisting, preventing, reducing and eliminating drug and alcohol abuse among local tribes. While the program is free for tribal members, clients who are not Native may be admitted but must pay for treatment.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment begins with intake and an assessment from which the necessary level of care is determined and an individualized schedule devised. Clients undergo individual and group therapy with a frequency and duration tailored to their unique recovery needs. Treatment at the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma program incorporates the 12-step framework with an introduction to the AA/NA principles.

Clients also participate in drug and alcohol education classes, decision making technique seminars and instruction in stress reducing processes. Additionally, recreational, social and cultural activities and events are scheduled to help clients develop healthy, sober relationships.

The Seminole Nation of Oklahoma’s staff consists of a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) as well two Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSACs).

Extras

Clients and staff also collaborate to perform outreach to raise awareness on substance abuse prevention in surrounding communities. Additionally, Seminole Nation of Oklahoma provides referrals to both short and long term residential treatment facilities, detox centers and halfway houses, as well as local AA/NA meetings upon request. Clients also work with staff to plan aftercare goals.

Services are complimentary for tribal members, and as they progress, clients are asked to share the message of recovery with the surrounding communities.
