Self-Recovery LLC Review
Self-Recovery LLC is an acute medical detox program founded in 2005 by CAC Tommy Moore. Located in three hospitals in Alabama and one in Virginia, Self Recovery detoxifies and stabilizes adult men and women suffering from both drug and alcohol addiction.
Accommodations and Food
Self-Recovery’s four hospital-style facilities offer private and shared rooms. Each location can accommodate 10 to 14 men and women. None of the rooms have TVs or phones but clients can watch TV in a common room. Cell phones, personal computers and visitors are not allowed but residents may use facility phone during certain hours. Though the program is located in a hospital, smoking is allowed for Self-Recovery’s clients in a designated area.
Meals are delivered on trays to the clients in their rooms and are designed by the hospital nutritional staff. Meals may include sugar and caffeine.
Treatment and Staff
Self-Recovery is a seven-day acute medical detox program that uses Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) in conjunction with individual and group therapy. Though not a 12-step based program, the first three steps are worked on during group sessions. Dual diagnosis support is not included but clients with co-occurring disorders can be referred to mental health resources once detox is complete.
The day begins at 8 am with a morning meditation where clients discuss goals for the day. Clients then follow a routine of meals, smoke breaks, medication calls and group sessions. Groups include relapse prevention, goal setting and the first three steps. Frequency of individual therapy is based on the needs of the client. Upon completing treatment, the staff works with the clients to craft a plan for continuing treatment that includes referrals to area residential and outpatient programs.
Staff includes a medical doctor, CAC, an assistant counselor, an LPN, RN and administrative and medical support staff. The staff-to-client ratio is one-to-six. The staff doctor visits clients once a day to assess progress and adjust medicine.

Self-Recovery does offer weekly counseling and life education sessions for clients who have completed its detox program.
