Second Chance RecoveryThe Basics

Second Chance Recovery was founded in 2009 in the small city of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, about 50 miles east of Raleigh. This CARF-accredited facility provides intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents. Their mission is to empower and educate clients so they can start new lives and heal from chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

Clients interested in getting help at Second Chance Recovery  undergo a full assessment and are given individualized treatment plans. Treatment length varies per client, depending on their situation and goals. This facility welcomes both self-referred and court-ordered clients. While they don’t offer detox, referrals are made to hospitals that provide this service in Edgecombe and Nash counties.

Weekly IOP treatment includes individual therapy and group therapy. Usually, clients attend several two-hour groups and an hour of individual therapy per week. The CBT-based group therapy topics include relapse prevention, goal settings and coping skills. Treatment for young people, ages 14 to 19, and clients with co-occurring disorders includes specialized groups and individual therapy with counselors. The exact number of weekly sessions and duration of treatment varies, depending on the individual.

Out-of-pocket cost is $150 per assessment, $30 per group therapy session, and $30 per individual therapy session. Second Chance Recovery accepts Medicaid, Medicare and most insurance plans. Clients are offered self-pay on a sliding scale based on income and level of care. Typically, Medicaid clients participate in no more than three group sessions per week.

Second Chance Recovery is run by Marion E. Frazier, a certified substance abuse counselor, and has a total of eight certified counselors on staff.

Extras

In addition to treatment, Second Chance Recovery offers vocational training classes to teach clients how to write resumes and prepare for interviews, with the goal of helping them find jobs. They also provide DUI assessments and treatment for clients who are required by the courts to find a program.

In Summary

For those seeking a 12-step-based approach to treatment, Second Chance Recovery might not be the right fit. The rehab is more therapeutic in its approach, relying exclusively on evidence-based techniques. However, Frazier and his team are committed to working closely with clients to provide them with the tools necessary to stay sober and get on with their lives.
