Located in Huntington Beach, California, SeaCliff Recovery Center is a full service facility for substance abuse offering both residential and outpatient treatment. The programs aim to help clients clients learn to live independently and maintain abstinence. In addition to using traditional methods of therapy, holistic approaches such as meditation are also included. The 12 steps are used as a cornerstone of treatment and support for co-occurring issues is available.
Accommodations and Food
The residential facility can accommodate up to 25 residents at a time and is just two blocks from the beach. Residences are split into four different apartment units. All bedrooms and bathrooms are shared, usually between two clients each. Common areas include a kitchen, laundry room and a multipurpose game room. There is also a basketball court on-site and easy access to walking and bike paths nearby. Transportation to the outpatient facility for therapy is also provided daily.
Fortunately, stays at SeaCliff aren’t all work and no play. Off-site activities include trips to local museums, surfing lessons, beach outings, festivals and concerts. Residents each receive a three month membership to a local 24-Hour Fitness as well. The program requires a minimum of two workouts a week, though clients are welcome to go daily if they choose.
By working with a nutritionist, clients learn how to shop and cook for themselves. Accompanied grocery trips are taken each week, instilling a sense of independence into the individuals. Meals can be prepared as a group or solo. For those who smoke, cigarettes are permitted in designated areas.
Treatment and Staff
To enroll at SeaCliff, prospective residents must first meet with an intake counselor to develop a treatment plan. When necessary, potential clients are referred to an outside detox program as needed. Once stabilized, clients generally continue into the residential program followed by outpatient care. Though treatment is structured, all programs are highly individualized.
The residential program typically lasts 90 days and offers a high level of care. Treatment includes individual, group and family therapy as well as meditation, 12-step meetings, educational workshops and nutritional assessments. The group setting allows clients to bond and reflect with others experiencing similar struggles. Group topics include step work, relapse prevention, healthy communication and coping skills. In addition to using traditional methods of recovery, clients learn about nutrition and attend recreational activities such as beach outings and workouts.
When it comes to the 12 steps, clients have access to two on-site meetings per day. The area of Orange County offers a great sober community, giving residents the chance to bond with like-minded individuals. Support for co-occurring issues is readily available and clients are able to address issues such as depression and anxiety through talk therapy, hormone therapy and medication management when needed. As graduation nears, clients work with their counselors on developing aftercare plans (which sometimes includes stepping down to outpatient programs through SeaCliff). There is also emphasis placed on independent life skills, encouraging clients to focus on resume building, safe housing and future employment.
Outpatient care allows clients to continue with therapy and monitored support after completing residential care. Outpatient treatment includes group, family and individual therapy, with length and frequency of treatment depending on the individual. Residents also have the option of attending outpatient care while living in a sober living facility. SeaCliff Recovery Center pairs up with local homes in order to provide ample support. Instead of simply having a sober place to call home, clients can continue with therapy and monitored support.
The staff at SeaCliff consists of Master’s-level therapists, psychiatrists, LADCs and a nutritionist. Group sizes for outpatient range from eight to 12 at a time.
Hormone therapy is available for those suffering from mental health issues. This natural alternative to anti-depressants has been known to lift moods and improve sleep patterns. Support for those suffering from trauma is also available.
Overall, SeaCliff Recovery Center offers a wide variety of treatment options for those suffering from substance abuse and co-occurring issues. Rooted in talk therapy, holistic practices and the 12 steps, clients are given new coping skills. As a result, SeaCliff is a great program for those looking for a well-rounded approach to recovery that fosters independence and autonomy.
