The Basics
One of the Tacoma branches of the Sea Mar Community Health Center is an outpatient treatment program known as the Tacoma Behavioral Health Center Parenting in Recovery. It offers Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) and standard step-down outpatient treatment for clients that are either pre or postpartum, or are single parents struggling with chemical dependency or a co-occurring disorder. Treatment utilizes evidence-based practices via group and individual therapy with programming that is individualized and sensitive.
Treatment and Staff
All treatment programs are available to adults who are either self-referred or for those who have been recommended by a court program. All programming begins with an in depth assessment process that takes into account each individual’s backgrounds with chemical dependency and overall health then designs and individualized treatment plan that consists of several group sessions weekly and one individual session per week. Additionally, this facility works with an agency called the Multicultural Child and Family Hope Center, which provides child care and other resources during the times the family members are in treatment. Clients are usually placed in the IOP, which is up to nine hours of treatment every week, and then step down to a standard OP, which is around once or twice a week. If during the intake it appears the client would benefit from a residential program, Parenting In Recovery is able to offer referral services to an inpatient treatment.
Treatment is comprised of a variety of evidence-based therapeutic practices utilizing CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Though these programs are not based on the 12 steps, the staff doesn’t discourage obtaining additional support while in their treatment and is able to refer their clients to local AA or NA meetings within the community.
There is an emphasis on relapse prevention, HIV/AIDS education, life skills, coping skills and anger management. There are also medication management services that clients can receive within the Sea Mar CHC family of practices for those who are dealing with a dual diagnosis.
The staff of Parenting in Recovery is experienced and highly trained in evidence-based treatment models and all speak several different languages in order to serve their multicultural clientele successfully. Accreditations include LCDC, LCSW and LPC.
Extras
There are aftercare planning and treatment programs offered through this location on an individualized basis. There are also random and frequent drug and alcohol tests, DUI classes and legal assistance for those who were court ordered to attend treatment.
