The Basics
Bellingham Behavioral Health Center (BBHC) is an outpatient facility in Bellingham Washington that offers evidence-based treatment approaches, gender-specific programming and relapse prevention through Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). BBHC is operated under the umbrella of Sea Mar Community Health Center, which serves residents throughout the state of Washington, and works in conjunction with their other health services to provide comprehensive addiction and co-occurring disorder treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Adults who are seeking chemical dependency treatment at BBHC can do so voluntarily but are also often referred by the court system. The initial assessment results in an individualized program plan comprised of psychoeducation, group and individual therapy and frequent drug and alcohol testing. If the client is referred by the court system, there are additional measures they have to take in order to comply with the state’s requirements.
The IOP meets up to three times a week in a group setting that covers relapse prevention, life and coping skills and addresses aftercare options. During this time the clients have access to the other health services provided by Sea Mar CHC including medical, dental HIV/AIDS education services and maternity support. For clients with co-occurring disorders, there are also psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.
Therapeutic approaches are evidence-based and utilize a variety of different modalities such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), DBT, The Matrix Model, Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), CBT, and the Living in Balance curriculum. Treatment at this facility is not based on the 12 steps, but BBHC does offer referrals and resources to support communities and encourage participation in addition to the treatment programs offered here.
Staff of the Bellingham Behavioral Health Center offer an array of treatment practices so as to address each client’s specific program needs and goals. This includes Master’s-level LPCs, LCSWs, MFTs and LCDCs, as well as psychiatrists, physicians and RNs.
Extras
BBHC offers women’s only groups, parenting classes, anger management, and all chemical dependency treatment options are offered in both English and Spanish. There are monthly monitoring services provided through this facility and aftercare referrals.

The variety of treatment methods and ethnically conscience options gives each client the individualized programming that would be most effective for success in the long run.
