The Basics
Founded in 1977, the Supportive Children’s Advocacy Network’s SCAN/NY Making Choices Treatment Center Outpatient program is based in the Bronx, New York. It offers outpatient substance abuse treatment for adolescents and adult clients who are struggling with substance abuse. Making Choices does not utilize the 12-step approach, but instead focuses on individual and group sessions.
Treatment and Staff
Therapeutic services are available for adults, adolescents and their families alongside education and counseling workshops which focus on substance abuse prevention. Adolescent clients must be over 16 years old to accepted in the program. Treatment begins with a bio-psycho-social intake assessment which helps determine the level of care required for each client. An individualized plan is also created, detailing the frequency and duration of treatment. Many clients attend groups one to three times a week and one-on-one sessions once a week. Making Choices also works with clients on relapse prevention and offers dual diagnosis support for clients with co-occurring disorders.
Making Choices employs Masters-level therapists with experience in psychology, social work and counseling.

Supportive Children’s Advocacy Network has a range of social services that support young at-risk people in the New York community. After school programs, early childhood education, healthy food and nutrition, support for recent immigrants and workforce development are just a sample of programs and services available across East Harlem and the Bronx, New York.
