inexpensive rehabs in mamou, LASavoy Medical Center New Horizons Review

Located about 50 miles north of Lafayette in Mamou, Louisiana, Savoy Medical Center is a full service hospital with a behavioral health department called New Horizons, offering adults short-term detox and inpatient treatment as well as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for chemical dependency.

Accommodations and Food

The facility has a total of 34 beds available and rooming arrangements are dependent on client’s individual needs. Primarily certified as a mental health hospital, some accommodations are for exclusively psychiatric clients; however, about 60 percent of the residents require dual diagnosis support. All meals and snacks are provided by the hospital cafeteria.

Treatment and Staff

Though the inpatient program at New Horizons is short (under 30 days), it does offer evidence-based treatment via individual, group and family counseling, which focus on coping skills, addiction education and discharge planning. CBT is used in individual sessions. Treatment during this phase takes place during he hours of 9 am to 7 pm.

The IOP track includes all of the above without the residential aspect and a more flexible schedule. Treatment generally consists of three groups a day in addition to nursing-based sessions for medication management. Family and couples therapy may also be factored in. Attendance at AA/NA meetings is not required, but recommendations can be provided for those seeking support groups in the community.

Staff includes a nurse practitioner, RNs, LPNs, a recreational therapist, LSWs and LADCs. Because the facility is a hospital, there are also a number of MDs available at any given time in the case of a medical emergency.

Extras

Savoy Medical Center also offers a physical rehab program in a 10-bed, semi-private wing of the facility. The program is led by an MD and is six days a week. A large gym and full kitchen are available for clients to practice life skills while going through treatment.

In Summary

In all, Savoy Medical Center New Horizons offers a structured IOP that can be attended on its own on used as a step-down from detox or the short-term inpatient program. Treatment works with evidence-based practices, so clients looking for an alternative to 12-step will be well-served.
