The Basics
Active since 1974, the Santa Maria Valley Youth and Family Treatment Center provides outpatient substance abuse treatment services utilizing the 12-step modality specifically for adolescent clients, Located in Santa Maria, California, SMV’s Youth and Family Treatment Center provides young clients living in Santa Barbara county with specialized treatment services that include therapeutic services and a holistic approach to recovery.
Treatment and Staff
The SMV’s Youth and Family Treatment Center services include individual therapy, athletic training and group therapy—as well as interventions where necessary. Services are available for young Santa Barbara County residents between the ages of 13 and 18.
The program runs Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 7 pm and Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm. Each client’s schedule is individualized based on their initial assessment. Clients attend at least one individual session and a couple of group sessions per week, depending on their acuity. Clients also undergo random drug and alcohol testing as often as daily, if necessary. The facility also works with clients in the juvenile court system, meeting any court requirements for treatment.
Staff work with clients to help create a sober lifestyle, aid parents in developing better parenting skills to reconnect with their children and help the young people avoid delinquency and foster improved decision making and problem solving skills. Staff also work with clients to relieve anxiety and depression and help families through disruptive experiences such as separation, divorce or death.
SMV Youth and Family Treatment Center staff consists of Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSACs).

In addition to learning how to cope with grief and trauma, families who participate in treatment at SMV Youth and Family Treatment Center are also given referrals to resources that may help them cover their basic needs, such as food and clothing.
