Santa Fe Recovery CenterSanta Fe Recovery Center Review

Founded in 2008 in the high desert of New Mexico, Santa Fe Recovery Center offers a 30-day adult residential treatment program based on a blend of the traditional 12-step philosophy and state-of-the-art empirical treatment practices. Stays of longer than 30 days can also be accommodated.

Accommodations and Food

While the residential program is housed in Santa Fe, the outpatient facility, Española Outpatient, is located in Española, New Mexico. The residential facility is an adobe-style building, with 23 beds, eight for women and 15 for men. All are shared with at least one other resident and there are no private rooms available. An on-site chef provides three meals a day, along with snacks.

Treatment and Staff

The first step for anybody seeking residential treatment at  Santa Fe Recovery Center is a free psychological screening. Prior to transitioning to treatment, admitted clients are required to go through a three- to seven-day detox and assessment period. The initial social detoxification process is a combination of services and modalities, the goal being physiological and psychological detox assistance; Suboxone detox is available, if necessary. The detox center corridor nearest to the medical staff. Vitals are monitored regularly, and room checks are frequent. Upon completion of detox assessment, clients transition to the residential program.

Residential treatment at Santa Fe Recovery Center includes a combination of group and individual therapy that employs various evidence-based and alternative treatments including CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), the 12 steps and family therapy. Primary counselors meet with clients in one-on-one sessions a minimum of once a week. The licensed psychiatrist provides consultation and medication management, as needed.

Core therapy groups consist of an average of six members, with over 30 hours of group therapy each week. Group topics and activities range from shame, guilt, anger, relapse prevention, and grief and trauma to Big Book Study, life skills, nutrition and fitness, HIV and communicable diseases. There are 12-step meetings on the premises as well as local volunteers who bring panels from AA, NA and CA. Treatment is rounded out with music and art therapy, yoga, acupuncture and journaling. Family day is Sunday.

Santa Fe Recovery Center employs a total staff of 16, among them a psychologist, three Master’s-degree level professionals and 12 other licensed caregivers with lesser qualifications. The facility is staffed 24/7.

Cell phones are not permitted, though clients do have access to a phone at no charge during evening hours.

Extras

Santa Fe Recovery Center has a gym with only basic equipment, though a bonus is that yoga classes are held there twice a week. They are also working with a local organization to incorporate adventure therapy into their program.

In Summary

Santa Fe has an artsy, small town feel, steeped in the diversity of Anglo, Hispanic and Native American cultures coming together. The high desert landscape’s sparseness allows for meditation and healing. For an economical recovery center, Santa Fe Recovery Center offers a great location and competent and caring attention, without the luxurious amenities that higher-priced programs offer. Those looking for a rehab that offers a combination of 12-step and alternative recovery in a serene setting and with a reasonable price tag will love this place.
