The Basics
Founded in 1945 in Luverne, Minnesota, the Sanford Luverne Medical Center offers outpatient treatment to adults struggling with substance abuse and gambling addiction. Treatment is provided in a hospital-like medical facility and combines the 12-step framework with therapeutic sessions that employ CBT. Clients attend group therapy, substance abuse education and individual therapy.
Treatment and Staff
The average client attends treatment at Sanford Luverne for 10 weeks. Duration of treatment may be shorter or longer depending upon each client’s needs (which are assessed during intake). Staff introduce clients to the 12 steps, asking them to work the first three steps while enrolled in treatment.
Clients attend groups three evenings per week—Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays—for three hours per day. On Mondays and Wednesdays, groups are scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:45 pm, and following these sessions, clients are encouraged to attend a community AA/NA meeting at 8 pm. Clients also schedule a minimum of two individual sessions per week
Sanford Luverne staff consists of two Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSACs) who facilitate both individual and group sessions.
Extras
Families are encouraged to participate in treatment and aftercare planning to create a support system for clients who complete the 10-week program. Family sessions are scheduled on an individual basis while continuing care group sessions are available once weekly to provide support for clients who complete primary treatment.
