Sanctuary Treatment Center Review
In 2015 Sanctuary Treatment Center began offering women individualized substance abuse treatment in the Los Angeles suburb of Encino, California. Programs include detox and inpatient treatment, both with dual diagnosis support. Sanctuary Treatment Center provides therapy that incorporates a health and fitness approach, utilizing holistic healing and a focus on nutrition and wellness methods.
Accommodations and Food
The Sanctuary Treatment Center is a private house in a nice neighborhood. The home offers a comfortable environment and has a backyard with a pool and spa. It takes a maximum of six female clients at a time. Rooms are semi-private, each accommodating two beds. Private rooms may be set up under special circumstances, if needed. The small scale of Sanctuary Treatment Center allows for flexibility.
All food is included in the cost of stay; a staff chef and nutritionist prepares three healthy meals a day. Clients may bring some spending money for discretionary expenses, such as weekend treats, or a gym membership.
Treatment and Staff
The Sanctuary Treatment Center inpatient program lasts 30 days on average and may be extended based on the individual client’s need. Clients begin with an assessment and proceed into to detox phase, if necessary. Detox is supervised by a nurse practitioner and lasts three to five days on average. Once detox is completed, the women proceed into the inpatient treatment program proper.
Several groups are available per day, amounting to about 20 hours of on-site therapy per week. Groups cover anger management, family relationships and coping skills. Methods include REBT, as well as on-site and off-site 12-step meetings and Big Book studies. Clients are also to take part in two hours of individual therapy and may also take part in relapse prevention classes.
Social, recreational and religious activities are optional. The Sanctuary Treatment Center wellness aspect includes the nutrition and yoga and extends to massages and meditation groups. The Sanctuary Treatment Center facility is supervised 24/7. Sanctuary Treatment Center staff includes a full time licensed therapist who is on-site Mondays to Fridays and who also runs two of the weekly process groups. The rest of the groups are run by three LADCs.

On weekends, the clients are welcome to do in-house yoga, go boating at a nearby lake, swimming at the pool or go on other outdoor excursions.
In Summary
In its first year of operation, the Sanctuary Treatment Center is intimate, but specialized in the needs of women and highly functional. With an array of services as wide as any inpatient treatment center’s, it offers the type of specialized attention that can only be provided by a small scale operation. This is a great choice for women seeking a 12-step based approach to substance abuse treatment in the San Fernando Valley.
