Sanctuary Lodge Review

Sanctuary Lodge is located in Halstead, a picaresque town 50 miles northeast of London. Sanctuary Lodge was founded by Eytan Alexander, a former finance professional who is in recovery. It is a member of UK Addiction Treatment Centres, a network of six treatment facilities in the United Kingdom that has been in operation since 2015.

Sanctuary Lodge provides integrated detox and residential treatment and offers alumni the opportunity to continue treatment at Fenton House, its adjacent sober living facility. The facility takes a multidisciplinary approach to recovery and employs evidence-based therapy, holistic treatments and the 12-step framework.

Accommodations and Food

Sanctuary Lodge occupies a large brick home with views of gardens and a nearby park. The home features double bedrooms with private en-suite bathrooms and treats up to 24 residents at a time. Bedrooms also have plasma TVs and writing desks. The home is outfitted with a comforting modern decor and has three therapy rooms and common areas for study and recreation. There is an on-site gym and garden area and features an outdoor BBQ. Sanctuary Lodge provides residents with laundry and linen changing services. Residents may bring laptops and use the home’s Wi-Fi within limits.

All meals are professionally catered in the full kitchen. Meals can accommodate residents’ preferences and dietary restrictions.

Treatment and Staff

Sanctuary Lodge provides a week-long detox program for clients in need of stabilization. Clients can then continue treatment in Sanctuary’s 14-day or 28-day residential programs. In both programs, clients attend an average of four to five treatment groups a day and have individual therapy at least once a week.

Days begin with 9 am meditation classes. After, clients participate in processing groups, anger management and relationships skills classes, holistic treatments, such as auricular acupuncture and massage therapy, and art and music therapy. In the evenings, residents participate in on-site 12-step meetings. Therapy groups use CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Post-Induction Therapy for trauma. Residents in need of dual-diagnosis support or medical treatment receive coordinated care with additional local healthcare providers, and UK Addiction Treatment Centres has a staff psychiatrist to monitor residents’ with co-occurring disorders.

Sanctuary Lodge boasts an impressive staff-to-client ratio of three-to-one. The on-site team is comprised of Master’s-level therapists and rehab techs, many of whom are in recovery themselves.

Extras

Sanctuary Lodge invites family members to participate in family counseling, and the treatment team also helps family members locate support meetings and therapists for themselves.

As alumni of UK Addiction Treatment Centres, all residents who complete their treatment plan can receive one year of weekly relapse prevention groups free of charge. Some residents may also choose to extend their treatment at Fenton House, Sanctuary Lodge’s affiliated sober living home.

In Summary

Sanctuary Lodge offers detox and residential treatment in a comfortable, spacious home filled with amenities and outdoor space for recreation and relaxation. Its well-staffed treatment program incorporates several therapeutic approaches along with the 12-step framework and holistic healing, giving clients many tools with which to approach recovery. Sanctuary Lodge’s free year-long aftercare program also gives clients access to on-going examples of strength and hope as they create new lives after addiction.
