Located in Honolulu, Hawaii, Salvation Army’s Ka Ohu Hou O Manoa is a sober living program designed for homeless women and their children. The program is run by The Salvation Army’s Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division as one of its Family Treatment Service programs.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Ka Ohu Hou O Manoa facilities consist of two bungalow-style homes with a total of 12 beds. Each comes with two shared bedrooms with twin beds, dressers and closet space. The houses also feature on-site laundry facilities, shared living areas with TV and a full kitchen. Throughout their stay, clients are expected to prepare their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
In order participate in the program, clients must have completed a residential treatment program and agree to submit to regular and random drug tests. Clients are required to commit to a year-long stay, during which they learn to live independently, secure employment, attend outpatient therapy or enroll in school. All residents must also attend regular 12-step meetings.
Aside from the transitional care program, the organization offers a residential treatment program for women and children as well as flexible outpatient services. As an added bonus, it also offers daycare to help women while they are working or going to school.
In all, Salvation Army’s Ka Ohu Hou O Manoa program is a structured long-term option for women with children who are in early recovery. All clients are expected to follow basic house rules, remain sober and work or go to school.
