With a number of facilities throughout the United States, Salvation Army’s Harbor Light provides drug and alcohol treatment services to men and women. Though it varies by location, this includes detox, residential treatment, sober living and outpatient programs. Aside from residential care, the organization’s Eastern Michigan Division offers a range of outpatient services at its locations in Detroit, Clinton Township and Monroe.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning treatment, clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff develop individualized treatment plans. Clients in need of sub-acute detox can attend a brief three to five day program at any of the Detroit, Macomb or Monroe locations. While admissions are open 24 hours a day, services offered are not medically intensive and thus not necessarily a good fit for situations where withdrawal symptoms could be life-threatening.

Once stabilized, clients can move into one of several treatment options. Clients who are stable and only need support services follow a standard outpatient track, which generally consists of one weekly individual session and group therapy as needed. Clients in need of more intensive care attend the Day Treatment Program through the Monroe facility, which is similar to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This program meets from 8am to noon, five days a week, for 20 days. In both of the above, therapy plans include evidence-based practices, like CBT and DBT, as well as 12-step support. Harbor Light Michigan does not offer support for clients with co-occurring disorders.

The staff at Salvation Army Harbor Light Michigan includes CADCs, LCSWs, LPCs, LMFTs, case managers and additional Master’s-level staff.

Extras

Aside from the above, the organization also provides specialized outpatient care for women through its Evangeline Center for Women and Children. Programs are tailored to pregnant women and those with children, with in-home support offered as necessary. This option is only available at the Detroit location, though clients from surrounding areas can be admitted with a referral.

As another specialized option, the Monroe location offers a program for the deaf and hard of hearing. Other services available in Michigan include emergency housing, in-jail treatment programs, Christian education groups and stepped-down aftercare services.

In Summary

In all, the Salvation Army’s Harbor Light facilities in Michigan provide a wide range of addiction services to men and women. Outpatient care is offered in several different intensities and consists of both evidence-based treatment and 12-step support, with several specialized options as well. For those in the area seeking an affordable and flexible treatment option, The Salvation Army’s Harbor Light program in Michigan is a valuable resource.
