The Basics
Saint Clare’s Behavioral Health Services in Denville, New Jersey offers residents of Morris and Sussex counties treatment for mental health and substance abuse. Addiction treatment at Saint Clare’s is available only to adults 18 years and older and includes a basic Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that uses CBT and DBT techniques in group and individual therapy. Detox is available for those who need it.
Treatment and Staff
The IOP for substance abuse begins with an initial assessment, after which each client is assigned a therapist to work with on individual needs. These one-on-one sessions occur at least once a week. Support and medication from an experienced psychiatrist are also offered to those struggling with co-occurring disorders.
The program typically lasts for six to nine weeks, with group occurring three days a week for three hours each session. The meetings are coed and usually consist of about 15 to 20 people. Schedules are flexible, with both morning meetings available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 1 pm, and evening sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Group discussion topics include relapse prevention, communication skills, stress management and education about substance abuse. Saint Clare’s is not 12-step oriented. Individual therapy varies depending on client needs, but weekly check-ins are mandatory. Clients can request to meet with therapists more frequently if necessary. All program participants must submit to random drug and alcohol tests to monitor their progress and ensure their sobriety.
Among the staff members are a psychiatrist, psychologists and licensed therapists.
Extras
Every Thursday night, clients are offered a family support group where family members are invited to participate in an educational class on substance abuse. Once class is over, clients and their families are encouraged to visit among themselves and other clients and families, helping to create a sense of community.
In Summary
Saint Clare’s IOP is a very basic offering that stresses community rather than lavish amenities. The highly affordable program is committed to providing quality care in a safe environment. While those with more complex addiction problems may want to seek a more comprehensive and regimented program, Saint Clare’s is a good option for those on a budget.
