The Basics

Founded in 2011, by Rebecca Marder who is a certified life coach and Master’s-level counselor, Sage Transition is a high end sober living home for women in Los Angeles, California. Their mission is to provide empowerment support so that clients can work on building life skills and dealing with co-occurring disorders, thereby making a smooth transition back into society after rehab.

Accommodations and Amenities

Sage Transition is inside the upper unit of a huge white Craftsman style home. It has a balcony, and features a small private yard with a wooden statue of Buddha, and wooden patio table with matching benches. Sage Transition accommodates between five and eight women at a time, in keeping with an intimate setting. Clients are accommodated in double or single-occupancy rooms, depending on their budget. Spacious rooms include high ceilings, wood floors and sparkling white walls. Natural light infuses the house, which is furnished with eclectic décor, from contemporary couches to exotic pottery and a classy dining room table with matching chairs.

Breakfast each morning is included in the cost of stay, as well as two weekly family-style dinners which are prepared in a fully equipped modern kitchen. Amenities include weekly housekeeping, Cable TV, Wi-Fi, laundry facility and local transportation. The house is within walking distance to a grocery store, public transportation, and a number of 12-step meetings. On-site staff is available.

Rules and Regulations

Potential clients must have undergone detox. In addition to housing, clients receive individualized recovery plans. Requirements vary per client. Those attending an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are required to attend between three and five weekly 12-step meetings. Clients who are not enrolled in an outpatient program must complete 90 meetings in 90 days.

For the first 21 days, the curfew is 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays and midnight Fridays and Sundays. After that time, the curfew is 11 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and one am on Fridays and Sundays. Other weekly requirements include participation with household chores and attendance at the house meeting. Clients engage in a daily morning reflection and, if they choose, an optional nightly 10th step gathering. Residents are subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Sage Transition practices a zero tolerance policy, and relapsed clients are dismissed from the premises.

Extras

Besides housing, other services available at Sage Transition are career and educational guidance, outpatient treatment referrals, family support, an art studio for creative projects, life coaching and support groups.

Sage Transition is a member of the Sober Living Network Los Angeles County Sober Living Coalition.

In Summary

Sage Transition offers an intimate yet luxurious setting for women who are in recovery from substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. This is a great place for women seeking an intimate setting and individualized attention, as opposed to a “one size fits all” approach.
