The Basics

Sage Recovery and Wellness in Austin, Texas, was created to provide outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment that combines the best evidence-based practices with cutting-edge holistic approaches. Most members of its clinical staff are dually-credentialed with substance abuse and mental health and/or holistic therapy certifications.

Sage Recovery has been in operation since 2014. Its modern, zen-like facility was designed to calm clients with a serene and discreet treatment atmosphere. Sage Recovery treats both adults and adolescents at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) level of care and is equipped to provide dual diagnosis support, including treatment for co-occurring eating disorders.

Treatment and Staff

For substance abuse treatment, clients are placed in either the IOP or a DBT Skills Training group. The IOP meets for 21 sessions and clients usually complete their treatment plan in seven to eight weeks. Clients have group therapy three times a week and individual therapy once a week. Both morning and evening groups are available, and Sage is happy to consult with outside therapists if clients are already working with a clinician for individual therapy.

IOP clients also have acupuncture detoxification and yoga therapy once a week, in addition to processing groups that address relapse prevention, creating boundaries and self-care. Groups are led by LCSWs, LPCs and LCDCs and use CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT). Groups usually have eight participants. Sage Recovery also has a physician and psychiatrist who provide dual diagnosis support, including medication management.

Sage’s Adolescent IOP also meets for 21 sessions. Group therapy is held Mondays through Thursdays from 5 to 8 pm. Clients also have individual therapy weekly, and families of clients must participate in family therapy at least four times during the IOP.

The DBT group is a good fit for clients who struggle with chronic relapse and/or borderline personality disorder and eating disorders. Clients in the DBT group learn how to regulate their emotions and practice decision-making. The group meets weekly and clients are asked to commit to a minimum of six months in the group before joining.

Extras

Sage Recovery holds a family education workshop on substance abuse twice a month. Once clients have completed their treatment plan, they can participate in a weekly CBT skills group for aftercare.

In Summary

Sage Recovery and Wellness offers a comprehensive IOP that incorporates traditional group and individual therapy with acupuncture detoxification and yoga therapy. It also has a DBT Skills Group for chronic relapse and an adolescent IOP that incorporates family therapy. Sage Recovery’s spa-like environment helps clients relax and recharge as they develop self-awareness and effective coping skills.
