The Basics
Located outside of Oklahoma City, Sac and Fox Nation operates its outpatient substance abuse program through the Black Hawk Health Center in tranquil Stroud, Oklahoma. For over 20 years, Sac and Fox Nation has provided support to Native Americans suffering from substance abuse and mental health issues.
Treatment and Staff
To be eligible to enroll with Sac and Fox Nation’s behavioral health services program, clients must be of Native American decent and have a current health chart with the Black Hawk Health Center. The intake appointment takes approximately 45 minutes, and during this time the client’s needs are matched to the services offered by the facility. An individualized treatment plan is then prepared. If the client is not covered by insurance, treatment at the facility is provided free of cost.
Outpatient services are available Mondays through Fridays, 8 am to 4:30 pm. The program offers both group therapy and individual therapy, with its outpatient program generally requiring one meeting per week for 45 to 60 minutes. Sessions incorporate a variety of therapeutic methods, including CBT and a 12-step approach, but sessions are also client-centered and offer flexibility. If an approach is not appropriate for a client, Black Hawk’s trained therapists will readjust accordingly.
The center’s staff includes a behavioral health services manager, a LCSW, a tribal youth coordinator and a CSAC. The center also has a contract psychiatrist on staff to offer dual diagnosis support for those with co-occurring disorders. For any services that are beyond the facility’s reach, including detox, residential programs and treatment for severe dual diagnosis issues, referrals are available for other facilities in the Oklahoma City area.
Extras
Though the substance abuse arm of Sac and Fox Nation’s health service has modest reach, it offers many additional services that can assist those in need. Providing marital counseling, case management and education for the Stroud community, Sac and Fox Nation has plenty of additional support avenues, should the outpatient program itself not be sufficient.

While a small service, Sac and Fox Nation is a valuable resource, providing pro-bono support to all who qualify. With no charge and a variety of support options in their health service program, clients can rest assured that they are in the hands of a facility that puts them first.
