Ryan Holland, InterventionistThe Basics

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, interventionist Ryan Holland is the President of Canada Interventions, Inc. has been helping clients achieve sobriety for the last ten years. Holland is an internationally Certified Level 1 Masters Interventionist and is a certified John C. Maxwell Leadership speaker, trainer and coach. Holland has helped countless clients and families through the process of intervention, treatment and aftercare. Canada Interventions believes the act of an intervention is the “ultimate act of love and compassion,” and are dedicated to helping those struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. Intervention services are also available for gambling, sex, computer and internet addictions as well as eating disorders. Holland works closely with the family of the client to educate them about the intervention process, inform them about the disease of addiction and ensures the client and family heal together post-treatment.

The Background

Holland himself has been sober since 2006 and has dedicated his life’s work to helping others achieve their goal of sobriety and to live a productive, healthy life. In addition to intervention services, Holland offers dream-building workshops, success principles and leadership workshops as well as key note speeches on the state of recovery today. Over the years, Canada Interventions have performed hundreds of interventions and has a 98% success rate of convincing clients to accept treatment. In addition to providing interventions throughout British Columbia and Canada, Holland also works with clients in the US.

The Approach

Holland’s interventions begin with an initial phone consultation, taking into consideration that the process is delicate and often emotionally charged. Holland and staff remain professional, empathetic and compassionate. During the initial conversation, staff gathers collateral information about the client and determines whether Canada Interventions is their best option. Clients in the Vancouver area may opt for a face to face initial meeting at no charge.

Once the family decides to enlist the services of Holland and Canada Interventions, the process is explained in detail and a deposit is taken. Next, a conference call is scheduled to educate the entire intervention team typically consisting of family members and friends. Those participating in the intervention are encouraged to write down their thoughts, concerns and hopes regarding the client and their addiction and recovery. This ultimately becomes their script for use during the intervention. Next, details regarding travel and accommodations are arranged.

Prior to the intervention, the team participates in six to eight hours of intensive informational sessions. Subjects covered during this phase are the disease model of addiction and alcoholism as well as self-defeating behaviors such as enabling, co-dependency and rescuing. Next, the best type of treatment is determined for the client is explained. This treatment can range from detox, inpatient, outpatient all the way to continuing care. Holland employs the Arise Method of intervention, a compassionate and invitational approach.

During the intervention, the team shares their thoughts and wishes for the client and if the desired outcome is achieved, the client is transported safely and directly to a treatment facility.

Post-Intervention & Summary

For Holland, the intervention process is the first step towards healing the client as well as the family. Post-intervention, family members are connected to Alanon meetings in their area. Once a client completes treatment, Canada Interventions staff remain in close contact and encourage attendance of 12-step meetings as well as individual and group therapy. Through this process, the compassionate and professional team members of Canada Interventions strive to help the client achieve not just temporary treatment for addiction, but a lifetime of sobriety and self-acceptance.
