The Basics
R & R Sober Living has been serving the residents of North County San Diego for over 15 years. The company has grown significantly in the last three years and now has 175 sober living beds in five facilities in Vista and Escondido, about one hour north of San Diego.
R & R’s program director is Steve Ellis, who supervises a team of hands-on house managers who facilitate clients’ attending peer support meetings and finding meaningful employment. While R & R doesn’t provide treatment, its house managers work with clients’ case managers and support networks to help them access the services needed to build a healthy life in early recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
R & R’s facilities include two residential homes, a duplex and two apartment buildings. Each has a modest, modern décor with full kitchens, Wifi and laundry facilities.
Residents have roommates and are responsible for completing chore assignments and purchasing and preparing their own groceries. Each home and apartment have a TV lounge for recreation and residents can also have TVs in their rooms.
Rules and Regulations
Clients first interview with the staff to determine if they’re a good fit for R & R. While clients are not required to have employment, they must be pursuing work, education or volunteer work. R & R is a proponent of the 12-step framework and encourages clients to attend meetings each week and obtain a sponsor.
Clients can be on medication, as long as it’s non-narcotic, and their house manager monitors their intake. R & R doesn’t impose a curfew, but the tight-knit community enables house managers to make sure clients are maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Residents can have visitors in the common areas of their home or apartment from 10 am to 8 pm each day. Male visitors are not allowed in the female residences, however.
Extras
R & R hosts weekend and Monday evening 12-step meetings and a women’s meeting on Wednesdays. House managers also help clients locate church services and other peer support meetings and sober social activities.
