Rosecrance LakeviewRosecrance Lakeview Review

Rosecrance is a behavioral health organization that operates more than 40 treatment facilities in Chicago and northern Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. Rosecrance began in 1916 as an orphanage for boys and grew over the years to provide treatment for substance abuse in adolescents. In the 1990s, the organization expanded further, adding recovery homes and adult services. Today, Rosecrance offers detox, residential, outpatient and recovery home programs for both adults and adolescents facing addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders.

The Rosecrance Lakeview location serves the Chicago neighborhood by the same name. It is a combination of an outpatient treatment program and a structured transitional care facility. The outpatient portion is open to all adults, while the recovery home is part of a program called Launch to Life that specializes in serving young adults between the ages of 18 and 29. Clients at Lakeview receive quality, evidence-based treatment, plenty of exposure to 12-step programs, career coaching and guidance in sober goal setting.

Accommodations and Food

The location for the Rosecrance Lakeview campus was chosen by the organization specifically for its vibrant recovery community and proximity to several college campuses. The brick high-rise building has space on the upper floors for 30 residential clients. A portion of the residential area is designated as short-term housing for participants in the Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and the rest are structured as long-term group apartments for young adults who have qualified for the Launch to Life program. The dorm-style bedrooms offer views of the city, tidy twin beds with matching comforters, nightstands and closet space. The building also has comfortable common areas, large meeting spaces, offices and a rooftop patio terrace where clients can eat, relax and hang out.

All meals are served buffet-style in the dining room. Dietary preferences can be managed by the clients since they have the option to shop for their own food and prepare it themselves in the community kitchen. Vending machines are also available.

Treatment and Staff

The treatment model at Rosecrance Lakeview is somewhat unusual. The outpatient program occupies the bottom floor of the building and operates independently from the recovery home. The basic outpatient and IOP are open to residents of the community. IOP is a 10-week program that includes 12 to 15 hours per week of group therapy as well as individual sessions and clients also attend off-site AA/NA meetings. The basic outpatient phase of treatment can last two to four months, depending on the client’s individualized treatment plans and progress. Outpatient includes one weekly group session and individual therapy once a month. Attendance at self-help groups is mandatory.

The Launch to Life recovery home program offers more structure and resources than a basic sober living facility, but more autonomy than residential care. The program is open to young people in any stage of recovery as long as they are medically stable and willing to follow the rules. Launch to Life provides enhanced recovery support for young residents who have struggled to face adult responsibilities and live independently because of their addiction. Clients receive help developing life skills while they work and/or attend college and live in a safe, sober community. Residents are required to attend house meetings and local recovery meetings as well as volunteer for community service activities. A variety of services are available to help clients build life skills. These include academic coaching, weekly in-house peer group meetings, 12-step support and participation, career counseling and community service opportunities.

The therapeutic components of all programs employ evidence-based practices, such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Groups cover interpersonal skills, coping mechanisms, spirituality, relapse prevention, self-esteem work, co-dependency, relationships and healthy boundaries and anger management. Psychoeducation classes are also offered.

No detox services are offered at Lakeview, but referrals can be made to other Rosecrance locations. Specialized groups and medication management are available for those with and co-occurring disorders.

The staff includes MDs, psychiatrists, nursing staff, MFTs and CADCs.

Extras

The Launch to Life program offers meditation exercises, art therapy and creative writing classes.

In Summary

Rosecrance is an expansive organization that offers a vast number of substance abuse programs. The Rosecrance Lakeview program is unique and the neighborhood surrounding the facility boasts a thriving recovery community for clients to explore. The Rosecrance Lakeview location provides a reliable evidence-based recovery program for all of its participants.
