Roque Center Review

Founded in 1972, Roque Center is a small residential detox program in Stanton, California that provides social-model, non-medical services to adult men and women. Programs include therapy, 12-step support, 24-hour supervision and same-day admissions whenever necessary.

Accommodations and Food

The facility has a total of 24 beds available for men and women in gender separate rooms. Rooms are shared and include two to three twin beds, dressers, closet space and basic decor. The rest of the facility is designed to mimic a residential home and includes on-site laundry, shared common areas with cable TV, outdoor spaces and a fully equipped kitchen. Throughout their stay, residents are served three meals a day with the help of a team of on-staff nutritionists.

Treatment and Staff

Before treatment begins, clients go through an initial screening and intake process to help staff members determine their needs. While treatment is non-medical and includes plenty of bed rest and relaxation, it also includes individual and group therapy with evidence-based care including CBT and DBT. Groups cover 12-step recovery, coping skills, addiction education and relapse prevention.

As the short-term stays are mostly focused on stabilizing clients, extensive dual diagnosis support is not available. As mentioned, the program is a social model detox and is thus non-medical—those with more severe withdrawal symptoms may need to seek additional help elsewhere. While the length of each program may vary, stays generally last for between seven to 14 days.

The staff at Roque Center consists of RNs and state-certified drug and alcohol counselors.

Extras

The facility also hosts weekly alumni groups on Wednesday for those who complete the program and are still in need of aftercare. There are weekly on-site AA/NA meetings and family therapy groups.

In Summary

Overall, Roque Center provides flexible therapy and short-term social detox programs for clients seeking basic stabilization services. While the programs offered are non-medical, residents are supervised 24 hours a day, attend 12-step groups and attend basic therapy groups. While those in need of more intensive detox services may need to seek additional support elsewhere, Roque Center still provides basic and affordable stabilization services for those in need.
