Rock Springs Review

Rock Springs is a private behavioral health hospital outside Austin, Texas in the suburb of Georgetown. The brand new facility is set on a sprawling park-like campus. Rock Springs offers residential treatment and a step down Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for adults struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. All treatment is performed by a highly-trained clinical team that provides individualized, top-notch care.

Accommodations and Food

Rock Springs is a beautiful, modern facility with space for a total of 72 clients. The residents can have private or semi-private, gender-specific rooms. Each bedroom has two twin beds and fresh bedding. Clients on each floor share several bathrooms with one another. Men and women residents are in separate wings of the residential area.

The hospital is more comfortable than clinical, with sunny lounge areas and a dining area that looks more like a café than a cafeteria. The common area has a large fireplace, and the media room has a TV as well as a billiards table for downtime. Clients can exercise indoors in the gym or outside on the property’s walking areas.

The facility has a private chef and healthy menus and meals are served buffet-style. The private chef makes sure to create hearty dishes with the client’s health in mind, and dietary needs are accommodated when possible. Coffee and tea is served throughout the day and sweet treats are also available.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to admission, clients requiring detox are referred off-site to a short-term unit in the hospital. Those who need a lower intensity level of treatment can opt for the PHP. Staff assess all incoming clients and determine the appropriate level of care in-person or over the phone. Rock Springs keeps clients enrolled for four to six weeks at a maximum and is designed to be a short-term but intensive program. Dual diagnosis support and the individualized approach enables clients to remain focused on recovery.

A typical day starts with a meditation group before breakfast, followed by exercise. The rest of the day includes up to 10 hours of group therapy, psychoeducation groups and time for clients to journal and self-reflect. The primary treatment focus is on groups, but individual therapy is also a component of care. After inpatient, clients can step down to PHP, which runs Mondays through Fridays for five hours a day.

In both programs, therapists use a range of evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. The facility also likes to include alumni to act as a support network for the current clients. Twelve-step meetings and step work is also incorporated into treatment in an effort to help clients develop an external support network when they graduate.

Staff members include physicians, Master’s-level therapists and a team of CACs and LPCs.

Extras

Rock Springs and the Herrington Center incorporate family as an essential part of the client’s recovery. A family program is held every weekend as well as family therapy sessions during the week.

Throughout the week, clients are given the opportunity to go on social outings, including movies and bowling, to give them the opportunity to develop healthy social skills and sober relationships.

In Summary

Rock Springs provides treatment in a serene location outside the busy city of Austin. If needed, clients can step down to the PHP track following completion of the residential care. Clients participate in evidence-based therapy, social activities and the 12 steps to recover mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
