Asheville North CarolinaThe Basics

Founded in 2015 by clinical director Jon Clarke and executive director Chris Hart, in Asheville, North Carolina, The Road, Inc. provides comprehensive behavioral health services, with a focus on substance abuse and addiction treatment, as well as dual diagnosis support. The facility offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and aftercare. Treatment includes evidence-based techniques, behavior modification and psychoeducation. Both Clarke and Hart boast long-term recovery.

Treatment and Staff

Before treatment begins, new clients undergo comprehensive assessments with an intake counselor to develop individualized treatment plans. Depression, anxiety and mood disorder questionnaires and a PTSD screen are employed for appropriate clients. Previous treatment providers and family members are consulted, if necessary. Those requiring detox are provided with referrals.

The IOP treatment length is typically 90 days. The weekly IOP schedule includes three group sessions, individual therapy, family therapy and psychoeducation exercises. Groups are about three hours in length, and meet three times a week. Group topics include relapse prevention, the 12 steps, processing, the disease of addiction, mindfulness and co-occurring disorders. Clients are encouraged to attend regular 12-step meetings. There are no more than ten clients per group.

At The Road, several evidence-based modalities are utilized during treatment, including CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), the Matrix Model and Seeking Safety, which is used for trauma. Besides founders Clarke, who is a licensed clinical addiction specialist, and Hart, who is a Master’s-level CSAC, staff includes a Bachelor’s-level administrative director, a Master’s-level LCSW, two certified substance abuse counselors, a peer recovery specialist, a musicologist and two licensed therapists.

Extras

Weekly aftercare varies per client, but typically clients attend a minimum of one group session, as well as participate in individual therapy, per their needs. At The Road, Inc. sober living referrals are provided for clients seeking safe and structured housing, so that they can focus on their recovery.

The Road also offers family therapy for clients and their loved ones.

In Summary

The Road boasts a staff with impressive credentials, and offers comprehensive evidence-based therapy to treat substance addiction and co-occurring disorders. This outpatient treatment facility in conjunction with a 12-step program would be an excellent choice for a newly clean and sober client in the Asheville area.
