The Basics
Founded in 1995, Road to Recovery is a behavioral health organization out of Atlanta, Georgia that provides outpatient and online treatment for addiction and mental heath. Though it also has brick-and-mortar branches in Gainesville, Smyrna, Forest Park and Sandy Springs, much of the non-profit’s programs are Internet-based, allowing the organization to serve clients all around the world. Clients are referred by social services, the court system or self-referred.
Treatment and Staff
For self-referred clients, an initial assessment is made to determine the best individualized treatment plan, usually consisting of individual therapy that is conducted in-person or via teleconferences with psychologists over Skype (all of which are highly encrypted for privacy). Treatment relies on evidence-based therapy such as CBT and psychoeducation, however, clients are required to attend outside 12-step meetings as well. Screenings for co-occurring disorders, domestic violence issues and anger management are also available and additional group or couples counseling may be recommended, addressing PTSD, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and other personality issues.
The staff at Road to Recovery is made up of LMSWs, MACs and Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
After the completion of primary care, an aftercare program is developed by clients and their therapist.
Additional services include DUI, defensive driving and violence intervention classes, as well as drug testing, interventions and prevention classes. All therapy is available in Spanish and no individual is turned away due to an inability to pay.
