Based out of Naperville, Illinois, Riverwalk Counseling Center is a small facility that provides flexible and individualized counseling services for clients dealing with an array of behavioral health issues. Treatment plans are open to individuals, couples and families, with support for substance abuse, gambling, depression, anxiety and dual diagnosis issues, among others. Beyond its standard outpatient services, the facility also provides gender-specific Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for women as well.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all participants go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff determine their needs and their care history. While the organization does not offer on-site detox services, those in need can get referrals to nearby programs as necessary. Once stabilized, clients start attending outpatient-based therapy on a schedule that suits them.
Women looking for a more intensive care regimen will likely attend the IOP track, which meets for three days a week for six weeks. Each session runs from 9 am to 12:30 pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In each of these sessions, participants can expect both group and individual therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR. Groups cover many different issues such as Seeking Safety for trauma, nutritional counseling, trigger identification, relapse prevention, anger management, social skills, parenting skills and other related topics. Other groups focus on holistic care methods including yoga, meditation and mindfulness training. Dual diagnosis support and medication management are available and outside 12-step participation is also required. Those attending a more flexible outpatient plan can expect many of the same methods, though in a less intensive format.
The staff at Riverwalk Counseling Center consists of LCSWs, CADCs, yoga instructors, case managers, family therapists and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Beyond the above, the organization also offers standalone family therapy and DUI classes as well. Though the program only offers IOP for women at the moment, a men’s IOP is currently in development as well. Programs are open to adults and adolescents alike, with special support provided for those staging interventions as well.
Finally, those who complete a primary care regimen through the program can also work with the staff to develop stepped-down aftercare plans whenever necessary.
In all, Riverwalk Counseling Center provides well-rounded, outpatient-based care to men and women, adults and adolescents. Though the facility’s flagship program is its women’s IOP, its also developing an equivalent program for men as well. Anyone who attends treatment can expect evidence-based counseling, dual diagnosis support, holistic care groups and life skills training as well. While those in need of extensive medical or psychiatric aid may need to find additional support as well, Riverwalk Counseling Center remains a strong resource for those in the area.
