RiverView Recovery Center, a part of RiverView Health, offers a range of outpatient programs for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in locations throughout Minnesota. Its flexible treatment options are designed to provide clients high-quality care without interfering with their otherwise busy lives.

Treatment and Staff

The facility has locations in Crookston, East Grand Forks, Roseau and Thief River Falls, each offering day treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and relapse prevention groups. While these programs vary in length, all of them include similar services. RiverView’s program is staffed with a variety of CADCs, and though medical detox is not available, outside referrals can be made.

Day treatment is designed for those willing to forgo the intensity of a residential program, but who still want a stricter routine than a standard outpatient program. This track typically runs for four weeks, meeting Monday through Friday for four hours at a time. Clients meet with an individual therapist once a week for one-on-one counseling, and also participate in group therapy for several hours every day. Group sessions cover topics such as relapse prevention, trauma, employment, 12-step, nutrition and communication skills. They also tend to be small, averaging somewhere between three and 10 clients at a time. Family counseling is available on a case-by-case basis.

RiverView’s IOP is not as comprehensive as day treatment, and consists of at least three group sessions a week for three hours each, along with weekly individual therapy. IOP typically lasts from six to eight weeks, and also features an optional family therapy component. There are also relapse prevention classes available upon finishing treatment which typically run for 12 weeks, and are fairly basic with weekly, two-hour group sessions. Across all their programs, mental health issues are addressed using CBT and DBT, primarily in a group setting.

The family program is a stronger part of RiverView’s limited offerings, where addicts and their loved ones participate in group therapy and educational lectures once a week. During this time, families can work on any communication and codependency issues they may have. In addition, these lectures also provide information to the family about the disease model of addiction.

Extras

Though the bonuses here are few, RiverView does offer a Driving With Care program where those with DWIs can receive CBT treatment, as well as a Driving While Impaired program aimed at preventing first time offenders from becoming repeat offenders. These programs are tentatively set at 12 hours each, spread across six sessions. Rule 25 drug and alcohol assessments are also conducted on a weekly basis, and are generally used to determine whether or not someone is alcohol and drug dependent.

Finally, the facility also offers a complimentary acudetox, which is a style of acupuncture developed for addiction and behavioral health. Traditional acupuncture is also offered, though this comes at an additional cost.

In Summary

For its part, RiverView Recovery Center offers a variety of affordable outpatient services in several Minnesota locations. Though they boast small treatment groups, a supportive staff and an evidence-based approach to recovery, they’re still somewhat light on individual attention and extras.
