Riverview Manor Review
Riverview Manor is a residential treatment facility for adult men and women located in Underberg of South Africa. Riverview Manor was founded in 1999 to offer treatment options for a variety of issues, including drug and alcohol addiction, eating disorders, gambling and co-occurring disorders. Throughout the program, clients can expect individual and group therapy, relapse prevention and an introduction to the 12 steps.
Accommodations and Food
The sprawling landscape surrounding the peaceful campus of Riverview Manor provides scenic views from every angle. The manor offers several options for accommodations, including private, and shared bedrooms between three and four clients, and executive suites. Each of the bedrooms has a private bathroom and a TV. The spacious facility is elegantly decorated and offers several common areas for clients to enjoy during downtimes between program activities. There are several recreation and lounge areas, a game room with a pool and ping-pong table, and many of the living room spaces have satellite TV and Wifi.
Nutrition is a cornerstone of treatment at Riverview Manor. Clients eat three meals a day prepared by world class chefs who create well balanced and delicious fare.
Treatment and Staff
Each client has an individualized treatment plan that’s created once he or she enters the program. They receive a great deal of personal attention that coincides with their treatment goals. Detox is not available so individuals in need of it may need to seek help elsewhere prior to coming to Riverview Manor.
Treatment at Riverview Manor includes traditional and holistic approaches that address a number of issues. Programming incorporates evidence-based protocols in conjunction with creative-based methods, lifestyle management, spirituality and more. There are several group sessions per day and at least two individual sessions per week. The group sessions are usually led by two therapists.
Treatment is adapted from the Minnesota Model and includes CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and a number of stress management techniques. During the week clients attend a series of psychoeducational lectures, classes about the long term effects of alcohol and drug use on the body, and learn about improving communication, personal development and setting effective boundaries.
There is an extensive team of specialists on staff at Riverview Manor who are psychologists, psychiatrists, dietitians, nutritionists, medical doctors and spiritual counselors.
Extras
Riverview Manor has a gym and pool on site, and arranges several recreational and therapeutic outings and experiences on a regular basis. This includes hiking and picnics, equine therapy and bird watching.

Riverview Manor provides a private and safe place for people from all over the world to come to and begin their recovery journey. The facility is beautiful and so are the surroundings, and the programing is comprehensive and effective. With plenty of recreational activities to balance out the therapeutic work, this is definitely a unique resource.
