The Basics
Riverside Center for Change is a drug and alcohol treatment facility in Riverside, California. As a contracted provider for Riverside County’s Family Preservation Court, its year-long outpatient programs treat court-ordered clients with the aim of helping addicted parents recover and create safer homes for their families. The facility is one of many subsidiaries of Mental Health Systems, an expansive California-based behavioral health organization founded in 1978.
Treatment and Staff
Clients are eligible for treatment as long as they have been referred from drug court and are parents and/or families who have been assessed by Children’s Services to be at-risk or have at-risk children up to the age of 18. Those who qualify begin individualized treatment plans that combine individual and group therapy. Treatment covers topics such as anger management, domestic violence, life skills, early recovery, emotional processing, healthy relationships, relapse prevention and gender-specific issues. Clients are also required to complete an adjoining 12-week Nurturing Families program that consists of in-depth parenting classes. Staff utilize evidence-based modalities such as short-term solution focused therapy, CBT and REBT. Additionally, regular attendance of 12-step meetings is required.
Staff consists of LMFTs, case managers and Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Additional services include voluntary HIV/AIDS testing, referrals to Planned Parenthood and further support for extended family members as necessary.
