The Basics
Originally founded in 1950, Rivers Edge Behavioral Health Center operates out of five counties in the state of Georgia. The outpatient substance abuse treatment programs vary by location and are also individualized to each client’s needs. Services include individual and group therapy, medication management, and psychoeducation groups for both adult and adolescents at some locations.
Treatment and Staff
Substance abuse treatment is offered by Rivers Edge in Twiggs, Baldwin and Bibbs counties, providing a variety of treatment options and evidence-based treatment models. Intensity and duration of these programs is dependent on the client’s specific needs when they come in for an assessment, where a placement and treatment plan is designed. Programs include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), or day program, and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient treatment. Day programs can require up to five days a week for eight hours at a time, the IOP being three days a week for up to nine hours total and the outpatient typically running about once a week for two or three hours.
For adolescents there are gender-specific after-school programs offered, and crisis intervention services. Treatment includes a combination of individual, group and family therapy and, if needed, psychiatric services that can include medication. Therapy address common issues for adolescents like past trauma, self-esteem and anger management. Adult clients have group and individual therapy options as well, specialty services for pregnant and post partum women, gender-specific treatment and educational groups that offer relapse prevention, coping skills and job skills training.
Treatment methods include evidence based, best practice models like CBT, DBT, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and off-site 12-step support through AA or NA. Masters-level and licensed addition therapist, case managers, medical staff and psychiatrists provide programming.
Extras
Specialized programs utilizing trauma-informed care can address domestic violence or past abuse. There are also family and couples counseling services available. For younger clients specifically, there is a program known as The Clubhouse where clients who are between the ages of seven to 16 who reside in Baldwin county have access to a facility that provides recreational activities like basketball and a game room. This facility offers a sober educational and supportive outlet.
