Accommodations and Food
River City operates two separate residential facilities, one for men and another for women. The women’s facility is a small residential house located in a quiet neighborhood in Sacramento and the men’s house is a large building located on 15 acres in Galt.
The women’s building has a total of 24 beds, with four rooms holding eight each. The men’s building has a total of 55 beds, all housed in a large dorm area. The men’s house has a recreation room, pool table and beach volleyball court outside. The women’s house has a lounge room with couches and a TV.
The women’s home serves three meals a day in a smaller kitchen area and the men’s house serves food in a cafeteria-style setting. Both organizations have an on-site chef. Although the meals are served from a set menu, accommodations for dietary needs can be made.
Residents at both houses are allowed to smoke, but vape pens and e-cigarettes are not permitted. The organization also does not allow any electronics or cell phones. Residents are assigned chores at both houses and are not allowed to leave once they are in the house.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment programs at both the men and women’s facilities are identical. River City offers 30, 60 and 90-day programs, with the level of treatment based on client preference. Treatment consists of group and individual counseling with clients attending four groups a day and individual sessions based on their needs. Counselors use CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), relapse prevention, anger management, goal setting, education and sharing.
River City also utilizes 12-step recovery principles and clients participate in Big Book studies and do step work while in treatment. It is not dual diagnosis equipped so it must refer clients with potential co-occurring disorders to outside mental health providers.
River City’s substance abuse counselors are registered Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADAC) and Consortium of Addiction Program of Professionals (CCAPP).
The women’s residential program offers weekly group family meetings that focus on substance abuse education and addressing codependency issues.
River City Recovery Center provides gender-specific residential treatment to adult men and women in the Sacramento area. The introduction of the 12 steps provides clients with a method of treatment they can continue after leaving River City. The family groups at the women’s facility not only involve the family members in the treatment process but also provides them substance abuse education. Also, the focus on creating an exit plan for clients helps them smoothly transition out of the program so they can effectively move forward with a solid base for recovery.
