Rio Retreat Center Review
Rio Retreat Center at The Meadows offers five day, intensive therapeutic workshops for trauma, relationships and personal growth. These workshops take place in Wickenburg, Arizona and are led by Master’s-level therapists who have experience working with clients with sexual addiction, relationship issues, grief and loss or have experienced a traumatic, life changing event. Programming consists of psychoeducation, experiential therapy, the 12 steps and other evidence-based approaches. Rio Retreat Center is an affordable alternative to long-term residential treatment for adult men and women.
Accommodations and Food
Clients attending the workshops stay in Rio Retreat Lodging, a historic dude ranch, that offers private rooms at the Hacienda, and shared rooms at the Bunkhouse. These rooms have Wifi and cable television, and are fully furnished with either a single queen bed or two twin beds. All rooms have a bathroom en suite.
While participating in treatment all meals are provided and prepared by a chef. Menus are designed by a staff nutritionists and are balanced and organic. There are also evening snacks offered at the lodge.
Treatment and Staff
These workshops run from Sunday to Friday and consist of structured days that are packed with group session, activities and events. The day begins around 7 am and includes psychoeducation, written personal assignments, small process groups and evening 12-step meetings (in addition to meals).
Depending on the workshops that the client is attending there are several options in each category. Emotional trauma groups are broken down into Survivors one and two, and healing heartache. The relationship tracks includes a couples bootcamp, sex and love addiction, and programming for couples who have been affected by infidelity. Clients who are seeking personal growth are offered gender-specific sessions, and mindfulness specific groups.
During these workshops clients experience a number of treatment methods, including EMDR, CBT, biofeedback and psychodrama. They address codependency, feelings of resentment, depression, and unhealthy patterns, like substance abuse or destructive behaviors.
The workshops at Rio Retreat are led by expert clinicians and senior fellows—a group of therapists and medical professionals who provide lectures and additional education to their clients per their specific field.
Extras
There are a number of activities offered, like yoga, Tai Chi, barbeques, games, art and music therapy, acupuncture and equine therapy. There is also a track specifically for professionals who are looking for growth in their industry. This explores experiences that may be holding the client back in their lives or for those who have been in recovery and are feeling like they are being challenged in that arena.

The workshops offered at The Meadows’ Rio Retreat Center offer unique perspectives and alternative ways of thinking. In a sense, they foster ways to kick start one’s life and move past the barriers that have held clients back in the past. The sessions are sensitive in nature but also provide challenges through therapy, and asks individuals to acknowledge some behaviors that may have affected their lives and happiness thus far.
