The Basics
The Marguerite Burke Ringer Mental Health Center—known as the Ringer Center—has been offering outpatient substance abuse treatment services in Greensboro, North Carolina since 1996. The Ringer Center provides a continuum of addiction care that uses the 12-step approach and includes ambulatory detox, medication-assisted treatment and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Treatment and Staff
The Ringer Center’s outpatient detox service is an alternative to inpatient treatment or hospitalization. They use Suboxone to treat opiate withdrawal for seven to 10 days. Alcohol dependency can some times require a five- to seven-day detox period with the use of Librium. These medications are managed with the help of a local pharmacy and it is recommended that clients have someone who can help them at home during the withdrawal period. Detox clients are also required to participate in IOP.
IOP includes group sessions that meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for two and a half to three hours. Morning, noon and evening sessions are provided to accommodate clients’ busy schedules. Once a week, on Thursdays, the Ringer Center offers a family group session. Clients may meet with a counselor for individual sessions upon request. Both group and individual therapy employ CBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), reality therapy and rational emotive therapy. Clients are required to attend at least one AA/NA meeting in the community per week. Dual diagnosis support is usually provided in individual sessions and and psychiatric medication management is also an option if necessary.
The Ringer Center staff consists of three CSACs who are also in recovery, three LPCs and a psychiatrist.
Extras
Some extra services provided by the Ringer Center include DWI assessments and treatment, a first offender youth program and urinalysis testing. Counselors at the facility provide treatment for depression, anxiety and mood disorders, mental evaluations, marriage counseling and couples therapy, and aid for children with ADHD. In addition to substance abuse, treatment is provided for other addictions such as sex, gambling, the Internet and smoking.
In Summary
The Ringer Center offers quite a range of substance abuse treatment options. Those who want to safely withdraw from alcohol or drugs without having to spend time in a hospital will appreciate the detox program. The IOP provides a wide variety of therapy approaches, which are complimented by the emphasis on 12-step participation. Add to all that the fact that the Ringer Center accepts most insurance and—even without insurance—has reasonable prices, and this is a rehab worth giving a ring.
