The Basics
Formerly known as El Rincon Community Clinic, Rincon Family Services was created for community members suffering from mental health and substance abuse issues. Founded in 1972 in Humbolt Park on the west side of Chicago, Rincon Family Services focuses on Latino clientele. The facility offers both individual and group therapy as well as opiate detox services conducted on an outpatient basis. Using evidence-based therapies, clients work to create a sober life.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, each client must first undergo an initial evaluation to determine an appropriate level of care. All programs at Rincon Family Services use an evidence-based approach with support for co-occurring disorders available through therapy and psychiatry.
Individual sessions usually last an hour each, covering topics such as coping skills, relapse prevention and mental health issues as necessary. Treatment methods include CBT and DBT and though 12-step is offered, it is not required. Group therapy is available in Spanish as well as English on a daily basis, with each session lasting two hours. Discussions in these sessions often cover women’s issues, relapse prevention, processing and coping skills. Group sizes run slightly larger than some comparable outpatient facilities, generally with 25 to 35 clients at a time. The treatment team at Rincon Family Services consists of bi-lingual LADCs, psychiatrists and physicians.
Extras
Additional services offered include DUI evaluations and treatment, in-home care programs for senior citizens, early intervention HIV programs, psychiatric evaluations, case management, acupuncture, a 10-week substance abuse prevention program for local schools and toxicology reports.
Other special offerings include the Intact Family Recovery Program, which offers a three-phase substance abuse plan for clients and their families. This program lasts for 18 to 24 months and includes child care, medical care, school assessments and parenting classes. Though not directly related to substance abuse, there are also coalitions available through the facility to address issues of traffic and driving safety.

Through evidence-based and bilingual therapy, clients are provided the basic tools necessary to live a sober life. Rincon Family Services remains a strong resource for Spanish-speaking clients in the Chicago area.
