Right Step Review
With 10 facilities in the Houston area, four in Dallas-Fort Worth and five in Austin and San Antonio, Right Step is a major Texas institution that recently partnered with recovery conglomerate Elements Behavioral Health. Given the sheer expanse of its recovery programs, Right Step has many treatment options available, from numerous inpatient facilities to medical detox to extensive outpatient programs. The Houston Central location is a good example of Right Step’s program of care and amenities.
Accommodations and Food
The Houston Central facility occupies a large apartment building with a total of 46 beds in a residential neighborhood. Clients share rooms, but with no bunk beds in sight, the atmosphere is not hospital-like. Each room comes with a twin bed and basic furnishings and bathrooms are shared on each floor. Genders are kept separate by floor, though men and woman take part in group activities together.
A staff chef prepares three meals a day, which are served, cafeteria style, in the Houston Central dining room.
Treatment and Staff
The average length of stay at Houston Central is 30 days, though if a client is making a particular breakthrough, they can stay as much as 45 and even 60 days. Clients spend their time with on-site group and individual therapy as well as 12-step meetings. As the 12 steps are the spiritual cornerstone of Right Step recovery, clients can attend a meeting, either on- or off-site, every day.
Right Step offers an in-house, five-to-10 day medical detox program though, unlike many other facilities, clients share a room with those further along in recovery. There is a medical doctor on staff as well as a nursing team to assist with the detox process and monitor clients. The primary staff are therapists and licensed counselors, who handle the daily mechanics of treatment.
Although days are busy with recovery work, Right Step provides opportunities for recreation with daily trips to a nearby gym, organized basketball games and the occasional off-site trip.
Extras
Right Step offers an intensive teen outpatient program at all of its locations, providing treatment in a way that doesn’t interfere with clients’ daily schedule. The program consists of 10 hours a week (at least three days a week) consisting of counseling sessions and educational groups led by licensed professionals.

With multiple locations and programs to choose from in the Houston area alone, Right Step is a highly professional institution. Flexible lengths of stay are another added perk. Client seeking 12-step rooted sobriety in a comfortable setting might do well receiving treatment here.
