Accommodations and Food
Clients reside in a multi-story brick home that offers six bedrooms and three bathrooms. There are some private and semi-private bedrooms available, all of which are fully furnished with full or queen sized beds. Common areas throughout the residence include three living rooms that have TV and WiFi. There is also a game room, lounge, large kitchen and dining room. Residents have access to the sprawling backyard space as well.
Clients help decide what food items are stocked in the kitchen. Some of the meals are prepared on site but often clients are expected to cook and prepare on their own. All food is included in the cost of treatment.
Treatment and Staff
The first step to getting treatment at Right Start Moseley is the intake process, which usually takes around one to two hours. During this time a counselor determines if the program is a good fit for the potential client, and from there a treatment plan is designed. Right Start Moseley does not facilitate detox or medication management.
Right Start Moseley is a step-down system of treatment, with the first step being 12 weeks of structured daily counseling. This first step is the most intensive and clients work with their key therapist and peer groups to address the origin of their addiction, anger management and trauma. They also work on building life and communication skills. There are also frequent individual sessions with the assigned therapist and several group sessions per week.
The next phase involves more social integration while still participating in the regular programming. Clients have the opportunity to give back to the community through volunteering or acquiring an AA sponsor while also earning weekend passes to go off campus.
The third and final phase has clients beginning the transition back into their communities, living at their own homes or in a sober living. They also start to explore obtaining full time employment or enrolling in school. There are still regular therapy sessions and daily groups that clients have the option to attend.
Treatment is rooted in the 12 steps and clients are provided with the Big Book along with other reading materials and workbooks. Additionally, treatment focuses on relapse prevention, identifying triggers and establishing attainable life goals. Therapeutic approaches are evidence-based and include CBT, along with some alternative holistic methods, like meditation and mindfulness.
Therapeutic activities are a key element to the treatment at Right Start Moseley. Clients have access to art supplies throughout their stay, have regular creative writing sessions, and a game room on campus that offers both video and board games, and a ping pong table.
Right Start Moseley uses ear acupuncture as a holistic method to treatment, which is performed by a certified professional on site.
Right Start Moseley works to prepare clients for life-long recovery from substance abuse. It facilitates several different therapeutic approaches over a fairly lengthy amount of time. The programming takes into account each client’s background and experiences to give them a well rounded rehab experience.
