The Basics
The Right Choice Counseling, Inc. is a private outpatient treatment facility in Bremerton, Washington specializing in alcohol and drug abuse. Treatment is based on the belief that alcoholism and drug dependencies are chronic, progressive and treatable diseases.
The Right Choice provides care for adults who are transitioning out of residential treatment centers, those who do not require a residential level of care and individuals who have been referred from the greater Kistap County court system.
Treatment and Staff
Located an hour-long ferry ride outside of Seattle, The Right Choice offers three levels of treatment for substance abuse: mild outpatient, standard outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Upon entry, a thorough drug and alcohol assessment is conducted by a staff mental health professional to determine which level of care each client needs.
IOP consists of three-hour group sessions at least three times a week for two consecutive months. For those needing a less intense level of treatment, regular outpatient meets for three hours, twice a week for six months, and the mild outpatient track is only once a week for six months to a year.
Treatment methods also include individual, group, family and couple’s therapy. The 12 steps are integral to treatment, although clients must attend off-site meetings. Dual diagnosis support, group psychotherapy (with a maximum of 12 individuals) and Rational Emotive Therapy (RET) are also offered at The Right Choice, but detox is not.
The Right Choice employs five staff members, three of whom are licensed mental health professionals, including LCSWs. There are no doctors on site, but clients in need of medication management can be referred out to a psychiatrist in the community. Continuing care and relapse prevention are also available to help clients stay rooted in healthy, sober-living practices in their daily lives.
Extras
While about half of the clients at The Right Choice are self referrals, the other half are referred by an outside government agency—usually the court system. Because of this, other social services are available alongside outpatient treatment for substance abuse, including DUI assessments, domestic violence programs, an alcohol and drug information school and anger management. All programs are also available to the hearing impaired.
