Rick WilliamsThe Basics

Interventionist Ricardo “Rick” Williams is on staff at the Frankfurt, Illinois outpatient alcohol and drug rehab, Partners in Counseling Treatment Services. Among a long list of qualifications, Williams is a Certified Intervention Professional (CIP), Master’s-level therapist, a CADC, a recovery coach and a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). Besides interventions, Partners in Treatment Counseling Treatment Services provides anger management counseling, dual diagnosis support, DUI services, employee assistance programs, parenting classes, partner abuse program and out of state DUI services. Additionally, case management, group and individual therapy, sober companionship, clinical and administrative consulting, HIV counseling and sober transportation are provided. Interventions are offered for clients suffering from alcohol, drug, gambling and eating disorders, co-occurring mental health disorders and other process addictions.

The Background

Partners in Treatment Counseling Services opened its doors in 2009. Williams has over 20 years of experience in the field of addiction. Besides holding a a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees, he is currently a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) candidate at Aurora University. In addition to his other credentials, Williams is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and a MISA (Mental Illness Substance Abuse Professional). He volunteers with the organization, Road 2 Recovery, which assists individuals with a serious mental illness by promoting independence, community integration and employment.

The Approach

Williams’ belief is that all situations are different and a combination of intervention approaches is used, to ensure a successful outcome. The goal is to help the family learn how to set boundaries, and get the client into residential treatment or detox.

The entire process usually takes about a week. There is an initial meeting and planning session for family members, followed by the intervention, which typically takes place at the family’s home to ensure privacy and comfort. If a client agrees to go to treatment, Williams helps families plan the treatment protocol, and is on hand to help clients transition into the proper facility. If they choose not to go to treatment, he works with the family to set boundaries and keeps options for individual therapy and referrals available if the client changes their mind.

Post-Intervention and Summary

Williams is on board, even if the intervention does not initially succeed into getting a client into treatment. He believes that even if the intervention is viewed a failure, it was actually valuable, because an important dialogue has started between the client and loved ones.

Additionally, recovery case management services are provided, and aftercare includes individual and group therapy, as well as dual diagnosis support. Families have the option of acquiring a sober companion, or recovery coaching for their addicted family member. With a long list of impressive credentials, Rick Williams is a highly qualified interventionist, and counselor.
