The Basics
Based out of Middletown, New York, the Richard C Ward Addiction Treatment Center is a CARF-accredited inpatient treatment facility for men and women struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. The facility is a part the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and as such is government-funded with programs for parolees, court-ordered clients and self-referrals alike.
Accommodations and Food
The facility has a total of 48 beds for male and female residents. Clients live in gender-specific, dorm-style rooms with twin beds, dressers and closet space. The facility also features on-site laundry and common areas with TV. Residents are served three meals a day cafeteria-style.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, clients undergo an initial assessment and then work with counselors and case managers to develop an individualized treatment plan. Though the specifics of each plan may vary, treatment works within the structure of group and individual therapy that uses evidence-based care like CBT and 12-step integration.
Special groups are available for clients with a dual diagnosis and for women in recovery. Other groups discuss recognizing triggers, life skills and relapse prevention. The facility does its best to prepare residents for life after treatment by connecting them with local recovery communities. Clients battling an opiate addiction can enroll in the facility’s methadone maintenance program.
The staff consists of art therapists, CASACs, CSWs, RNs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Richard C Ward Addiction Treatment Center also provides some holistic options, like an art therapy program called Innervisions that features rotating activities designed to boost self-esteem and self-expression. Acupuncture is also available.
Because the organization is state-run, clients don’t necessarily need to have insurance or be able to pay in order to take advantage of its treatment services.
In Summary
Overall, Richard C Ward Addiction Treatment Center is a well-rounded inpatient facility operating under the umbrella of the New York OASAS. Treatment uses both evidence-based and holistic care, with special groups available for women and those suffering from co-occurring disorders. For locals, especially ones coming out of the criminal justice system, Richard C Ward Addiction Treatment Center is an affordable program worth considering.
