The Basics

Located 20 minutes south of downtown Kansas City in the neighborhood of Overland Park, Resonate Relationship Clinic treats children, adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders as well as those with co-occurring mental conditions like anxiety and trauma. The facility also provides counseling services for individuals, couples, children and families. Resonate was co-founded by Emma and Grand Wood, MFTs and owners of Resonate’s sober living partner, Thalia House. Resonate and Thalia House offer a comprehensive evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for male and female adolescents and adults. Resonate utilizes a multi-theoretical approach to treatment that synchronizes a number of therapies including nutrition therapy, skill building, neurofeedback, relapse prevention and evidence-based practices.

Treatment and Staff

The facility offers an evening IOP that is ideal for clients that cannot commit to a residential program but still require structured treatment. It also allows individuals to continue attending school or work. The facility provides clients with a reference workbook and online curriculum to help keep track of groups. Before beginning treatment, clients undergo a comprehensive “pre-therapeutic outcome assessment” that helps the team understand the status of the individual’s eating disorder and the existence of co-occurring disorders. From there, the most effective individualized care program is designed based on the needs and goals of the client. The assessment also serves as a baseline for progress analysis throughout treatment, and is utilized again at the end of treatment.

While the duration of the program varies depending on the needs of the client, the IOP is designed for a 12 week participation. To ensure an individualized therapeutic experience, Resonate provides clients with an integrative approach that includes evidence-based therapies, individual and group therapy, family therapy, spiritual formation, nutrition counseling and neurofeedback to teach self-regulation of brain function using the analysis of brain waves.

The IOP is on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, with adolescent groups separated by gender and one co-ed adult group. Clients engage in two hours of group therapy and one hour of meal support and nutrition feedback. The facility offers skills groups that focus on a number of topics including resilience, the disease of eating disorders and relapse prevention strategies. Resonate therapists utilize evidence-based methods like DBT, ACT and internal family systems therapy. In addition, clients participate in a monthly family session.

Neither the 12-step recovery model nor medication management are components of Resonate’s programming.

The Resonate team is comprised of DBT certified therapists, counselors, play therapists and a licensed dietitian.

Extras

In addition to the evening IOP, Resonate offers family therapy and couples therapy. More specifically, the facility provides “premarital preparation” and marital therapy that focuses on bad habits, communication, the disease of addiction, co-parenting and recovery from loss.
